T-Mobile Coverage Map & Tips to Improve Cell Phone Signal Strength

The second-best coverage in United States behind Verizon is that of T-Mobile. They have 59% of U. S. A. covered by their network. It is really growing, especially with introduction of 5G. Learn how to boost your T-Mobile signal in your home, office, or vehicle using our coverage maps and cell phone signal booster suggestions.

The T-Mobile network is made up of a part of the 600 MHz spectrum, which certain types of older phones are not able to have access to, but any newer phone can. There are smaller MVNO carriers that are on the T-Mobile network, which provides access to this great coverage.

In United States there are just 4 main carrier networks which are T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. Most recent shootouts had put T-Mobile as number 2 in the nation, right in front of AT&T and behind Verizon. This result is mostly related to how much of USA is covered by the T-Mobile Network. The rapid network expansion and the addition to their 600 MHz spectrum is finally starting to show through.

There are some smaller carriers, also referred to as MVNOs which are on the T-Mobile network. This includes Metro PCS which is a branch of T-Mobile, TracFone, US Mobile, and Ultra Mobile.

The Comparison of T-Mobiles Coverage.

The T-Mobile LTE coverage map of the nation can help to provide just how much reception is provided by T-Mobile compared to other carriers like Sprint, Verizon and AT&T. You may notice that T-Mobile is just about the same as AT&T when it comes to coverage, but there are some pretty large blank areas in Iowa, Montana and even Wyoming, but the South East and East Coast are completely covered by T-Mobile.

Not all phones will have access to the 600 MHz spectrum, but this is one reason why T-Mobile managed to best AT&T.

Is the Most Reliable Network Actually T-Mobile?

When it comes to numbers, the 4G coverage based on the 4 major networks are as follows:

  • 4. Sprint at 27% Coverage.
  • 3. AT&T at 58% Coverage.
  • 2. T-Mobile at 59% Coverage.
  • 1. Verizon at 70% Coverage.

When it comes to nationwide carrier coverage, T-Mobile is only number two, but that is only by 1% with AT&T being at 58% nationwide coverage. Now when these numbers are broken down, it comes to a difference between carriers.

T-Mobile does not carry as much of U.S.A. as Verizon by 11% in the 4G network, but it is much more when it comes to 3G. Whenever there is not any 4G signal, your phone will revert to 3G.

How Good is the Coverage for T-Mobile?

The T-Mobile coverage map is enough to show anyone just why they are second when it comes to nationwide coverage. Most of the country is covered by T-Mobile, even though there are gaps within Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, and Nebraska. Yet, T-Mobile is working very hard to expand into more rural areas, so this is a big change.

Coverage in Local Areas.

US of A's covered by 59% of T-Mobile but only for the 4G network, and this is compared to other major carriers. Many people really want to know what the service would be like in their local area.

There're some places that have a lookup feature for addresses. This can help anyone to check their coverage. Even the T-Mobile website shows coverage feature. The results often show up on another page and it will then show location specific coverage information. The coverage on the map can be looked up by state, city, zip code, or street name and number in the future.

Carriers on T-Mobile Network.

If a person wants to get solid coverage from the T-Mobile network, then a plan does not have to be purchased from them directly. There are some smaller carriers that are called MVNOs that are on this network. One of the biggest MVNO for T-Mobile is MetroPCS, which is a large subsidiary of T-Mobile. TMO's network is also the home of other MVNOs like US Mobile, Ting, Simple Mobile and TracFone.

Below is a list of MVNOs which run of the T-Mobile network as well as other carriers:

Expanded Coverage Map.

Because of the 600 MHz LTE network of T-Mobile, the coverage in rural areas is much better. The carrier does not have a map of where you are going to need to have a Band 71 phone, but these can be found.

The low band LTE network has allowed the carrier to fully reach over most of the Central and Northern United States. This Band 71 Network is one that has been around since August of 2017, but it is now covering more than 300 rural towns and cities that have never been covered by T-Mobile.

The license for this band was won by T-Mobile during an auction in 2017, but they still have not been able to fully release it everywhere. The spectrum for Band 71 was originally TV channels that ranged from 38 to 51. TV stations have been moving the signals to much lower channels, there are some that are still making the switch, but have until 2020 to do so.

Working since 2018, it has been hard to fully identify all of the zip codes that are covered by T-Mobile who have Android phones, but speed tests were run to test the speeds on this low band network. Any false positives for some areas where removed which helped to provide a more accurate map for most of the coverage.

The results from this test did not really show most of the low band network, but it did show the areas that could be identified within the tests. Most areas within the United States are also covered with the Band 12 or 700 MHz network, which is not what was being focused on.

Another fact is that this network is also able to cover most of Puerto Rico.

When you compare the results found from one test to what the current LTE map looks like, you are able to see that T-Mobile has really worked hard to get its coverage over parts of the North in the U.S. Therefore, if using T-Mobile in areas like New Mexico, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Maine, there is much better coverage than what there was over a year ago.

According to T-Mobile, they have coverage in Puerto Rico and 43 states. The company also owns the 600 MHz spectrum which covers the whole United States of America. However, it has not been able to cover the whole nation due to TV stations that are currently operating and occupying these airways in order to clear out the spectrum, which is a process that is still going on. However, T-Mobile is expected to have a large amount of coverage over 272 million people by the end of 2019.

There are some existing subscribers who do not have this coverage. This is due to the phone not being Band 71 compatible. There are only 29 devices that are able to support 600MHz, which include high end phones like OnePlus 6T, Apple iPhone XS, and Galaxy S9, but there are some low-end devices that are compatible which are devices like the Moto E5 Plus and Revvl 2 by T-Mobile. However, it was not until August of 2017 that most Band 71 phones were finally released and that means that if you have an older phone, you will not be able to hear or see this network at all.

A hot topic lately has been rural wireless coverage, simply because T-Mobile has been pledging that it will start to cover rural areas much better if it can merge with Sprint. According to the Department of Public Service in Vermont, a coverage drive test was done which showed that most networks within the rural parts of Vermont were not that great.

This drive test showed that the coverage by the major carriers, especially within the west central parts was much weaker than AT&T or Verizon. However within the northwestern part, the coverage by T-Mobile is much stronger than everyone else. As of now are there are only 2 TV stations that are within the 600MHz spectrum within Vermont which are scheduled to be out of the spectrum between March and July of 2020.

What about 5G?

This 600 MHz spectrum will be used to set up nationwide 5G, but the coverage maps are not able to help predict where T-Mobile will be installing 5G. This is due to T-Mobile splitting the 600MHz spectrum into 5G and 4G, based on what frequencies the carrier will have set up and how many 5G devices are available.

Even though T-Mobile will have nationwide licenses for the Band 71 spectrum, it has not been installed everywhere for many reasons. There are some places where TV stations are still broadcasting on it. Other reasons are that the carrier believes that there is enough 4G between 1900MHz, 1700MHz and 700MHz, and it could be holding onto the 600MHz just for 5G.

T-Mobile may start using Qualcomm X55 modems within existing 600-MHz LTE areas to mix 5G and 4G together in the same spectrum. On this spectrum 5G will end up being up to 50% faster than 4G. Eventually as more 5G devices become available, more 600 Mega Hertz will be assigned to 5G. This means that more traffic will come over to the spectrum as well.

T-Mobile will keep a portion of Band 71 for 4G for the areas where there was not coverage before, and that means that if a person does not have a 600 Megahertz phone, and thinking about T-Mobile, then it would be best to purchase one right away.

Improving Cell Phone Reception.

One way to start to improve cell reception coverage, other than moving into an area that has great coverage, is to upgrade to a brand-new device.

Newer devices may be able to get much better cell coverage than any older models. This is not a ploy to get you to buy a new phone and sign a new contract. This is because new phones incorporate more frequencies and spectrums which were not disclosed in the past by carriers or were not certain to be used in the future. With new disclosures and implementation of newer technology networks, manufacturers of new phone models are able to use radio technology to tap into new spectrums that are released by major carriers.

For instance, T-Mobile introduced Band 12 spectrum which worked 4 times faster than the spectrum before it inside of a building. However, the iPhone 5s did not come equipped with a radio that would work on Band 12, but the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 all have this radio.

This also goes for phones and carriers; the newest upcoming models are going to be equipped with built in technology that can operate on the most recent spectrums to be released.

Improving Weak Cell Phone Signals.

Besides purchasing a phone booster, there are some great ways that a poor cell signal can be fixed.

1. Remove anything that can interfere with cell reception.

What needs to be understood about a cell phone is that if a person wants to get signals from the tower constantly, then it may help if the cell phone is in line with the tower and that means little to no obstructions. Any objects that exist in between them need to be reduced. If the signals from the tower has to go through a lot of obstructions like glass, walls, etc. they can be weakened considerably.

What can be done in order to eliminate or even reduce any interference that is between the cell tower and cell phone? Calls may be made close to an open window, or on a terrace upstairs, which is something that many people do anyways, without being told to do it.

However, if there are other obstructions that cannot be moved like tall buildings, hills, mountains and trees, metal structures, thick building materials or walls. If these things are made from concrete or metal, then service may not be that great.

The weather is another thing that cannot be changed. The weather can change suddenly which causes signal strength to drop. Sometimes there will be hurricanes and storms and the weather can really mess with the reception by interfering or blocking the signal and the weather cannot be wished away.

However, internal interference can be taken care of like metal objects, anything that sends electronic or magnetic signals, and electronics especially if they happen to interfere with cell waves. Thus, it is best to get rid of internal clutter.

There are not a lot of things that are really standing in the way of the cell tower and a cell phone. Calls will need to be made from the second or third floor and there needs to be a line of view of the tower if an important call needs to be made. The reason is that the higher that you go, the less obstructions there will be, such as other buildings, houses, etc. This can help to regain the signal in an office building or home.

2. Keep the Cell Phone Battery Charged.

Whenever a phone tries to connect to the cell tower, it will suck power from the battery. When the phone has a low battery, then it will be much harder to locate the signal, because they are programmed to use less power for this process, and they try to conserve power and this causes poor cell reception.

This is why it is very important that everything is done to conserve power in a cell phone. The NFC and Bluetooth need to be shut down to save power and these features should only be used when they are really needed.

Lower the brightness on the screen and ensure that there are no software or apps that are running on the phone within the background that are not needed. Ensure that the phone is updated to the latest firmware and keep any push notifications turned off.

Lastly, there may be times when the battery does get low, like when travelling. It is in this case that a portable battery charger or charger pack be used.

3. Locate the Closest Tower to Where the Home Is.

One of the biggest reasons for having a weak signal is because of the distance of the cell tower. It is best to learn where the cell tower is, no matter where a person is.

It does help to be as close to the cell tower as possible and this can help to get the best signal as possible, under whatever circumstances there may be. Therefore, you can go to the side of the house or office closest to the tower.

There are a lot of apps and websites that can help show where local cell towers are located and the distance between the cell phone and the cell tower.

There are some websites like Open Signal, Cell Reception and Antenna Search that can help to show anyone where the local towers are. All that has to be done is enter in the zip code for that area and it will provide information on all cell towers within that area. This can even provide a comparison of the cell signal strength of that phone with other areas inside of U.S.A.

There are a couple of apps like RootMetrics and OpenSignal that work on both Android and iOS that can do the same thing. They will show where the nearest cell tower is, so that it helps to get a great signal that is a much better quality than it was before.

Another way to detect cell towers is to use a smartphone. Smartphones are able to show where the strongest signal is. To be done correctly, a person just needs to pay attention to the bars on the phone, and if there are 5 full bars then this is full signal strength. However, these bars are not always accurate, so it is best if the signal strength is checked in dBm or decibels.

Whenever there are 5 bars, the signal strength is about -50dB. If there are no bars showing on the phone, then the signal is dead and will be at -120dB, which means that the smartphone is practically useless for calling or surfing Internet because it is in a dead zone.

In order to look at dB readings on the phone, do not just look at the bars that are shown. The bars can mean different things based on what cell service is being used on that phone.

The dB signal reading can be found on the iPhone by dialing *3001#12345#*

If the phone is an Android, then go to Settings > General > About Phone > Network or Status. This is where the dB value can be found.

4. Use WiFi Networks.

Most carriers within U.S. and even Canada have something called WiFi calling. This allows a person to use broadband Internet connections to make a phone call and even use Internet. Verizon and AT&T offer this to Samsung Galaxy, iPhone, and LG users. Sprint and T-Mobile allow the use of WiFi calling on most models. To access this, go to Settings > Wifi Calling on the phone and then turn it on, or look at the manual to turn this on.

5. Hold the Cell Phone So That the Antenna is Not Blocked At All.

The cell phones from the late 1990s and early 2000s had external antennas. These antennas were very visible, and they were very useful, and they helped to communicate with the cell towers to receive and send signals from these antennas.

It was with the development of the iPhone which launched the trend of the internal antenna over 10 years ago, which caused everything to change. The external antenna become a relic from the past that many people remember but just have let go. The phones of modern times now have an antenna that is built on the inside of them.

When it comes from the design point of view, internal antennas are very appealing. It tends to make the smartphone look very easy to carry and super stylish. However, with the internal antenna, comes issues like if your phone is held sideways, your hands are then going to block the antenna which is the metallic rim that is located on the side of the phone, which is what actually makes the communication with the cell phone tower very hard to do.

This is often not seen as being a major issue because the most recent smartphone models have the internal antenna placed in a strategic position which helps to prevent signal blocking. However, if the cell phone is within a rugged case, and both hands are used to hold it, it may affect the strength of the signal adversely.

In order to be on the safe side and to get a better signal, hold cell phones in an upright position so that the internal antenna does not get blocked at all. If there is still issues with poor signal reception, then lift it from the bottom or hold it at the bottom using the tips of your fingers, like a butler carries trays with one hand. This can really help cell reception. Also, do not grab any cell phone too hard and do not press it close to the head. The grip on the phone should be light as it can help to provide a much better connection to the cell towers for a better signal.

Another thing that could be tried is to use this simple trick and go hands free with a cell phone. Put the phone on a table that is in a balanced, vertical position if it is at all possible and then use the speaker phone to communicate. Whenever the phone is free standing, it will be able to pick up signals much more effectively.

6. Move Away From Highly Populated Locations.

Think back to a time when a call dropped. The chances are that it happened at a football game or a rock concert, where there are thousands of people and every person is using their cell phones at the same time.

Whenever this happens, whenever too many people are on their tablets or smartphones at one time, the nearest cell tower will be overwhelmed with all the traffic that is happening. This causes slow uploads, slow downloads, spotty reception, unreliable and slow internet, dropped calls and text messages cannot get sent out.

If there is a large crowd, it is best to avoid using a smartphone. Leave the area and find a quiet area where there are hardly any people and then make that phone call. It is really that simple.

7. Easy Fixes for No Service for iPhones.

We should talk about some easy fixes for iPhones if basic uses like calling, texting or using the internet is not working. Firstly, it is best to check to see if the SIM card has not been damaged at all and that there is not a bug in the software. There may even be an issue with recent iOS upgrades. If there is not any issue with the SIM card or any recent iOS updates, and that ugly message “Searching for Service” is still there, then it is best to use these fixes to see if that helps to provide service for any iPhone.

A. Toggle Airplane Mode.

If there is a message that shows No Service on an iPhone, then it could be an easy fix just by turning airplane mode on and then off. In order to do this, go to Settings > General > Airplane Mode. Click to turn the airplane mode on and then wait for at least 5 to 10 seconds and then turn off airplane mode. This should help to get phone service back by simply reconnecting to a cell tower that is much closer to where the iPhone is.

B. Ensure that Cell Data is Turned On.

After toggling airplane mode if the iPhone still is showing no service, then it might be best to check to see if the cell data is turned on. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data and check to see if it is turned on. What if a person is travelling? Then turn Data Roaming on, especially if traveling abroad. This can be done by going to Settings > Cellular > Data roaming and clicking to turn on.

C. Ensure that Time and Date are Correct.

It may sound funny to say, but it has been found that sometimes the reason for no service on the iPhone is because the time and date are not the same in the area that a person is in. In order to correct this, the iPhone should be connected to WiFi and then go to Settings > General > Time and Date. This is where there will be an option to Set Automatically. This should be turned on.

D. Restart the iPhone.

If everything above has been tried and there is still no service on the iPhone, then maybe try restarting it. That may be all that it needs to get service back to the phone because it is able to clear out any glitches that are in the programming software whenever the antenna signal changes from one tower to another in order to get a closer signal. There is no need to tell anyone how to restart an iPhone, they should already know how to do this as it is easy enough.

E. Change Voice and Data.

Another really easy fix for the iPhone is to change options for Voice and Data from 3G over to 4G or from 4G to 3G based on what works for that phone. The reason for this is that some places will have a strong 4G or LTE network while other areas may have a much stronger 3G signal based on how close the device is to the tower. This is really easy to do. Simply go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular data option > Voice and Data. It will be here that 3G or 4G can be selected, based on what works best in that particular location.

F. Update iPhone Carrier Settings.

It is very possible that the carrier has sent over recent updates to the iPhone, which have not been installed yet because service is not great wherever the device is. Go to Settings > General > About. It will be here that a notification will show if there is an update that is available or not. If there is an update, it is best that it gets installed on the iPhone as soon as possible.

G. Remove and Reinsert the SIM card.

If none of the above happens to work for that iPhone, then take the SIM card out. Wipe it off gently using a dry cloth and then reinsert it into the phone. There may be times where grime and dirt will collect on the metallic surfaces that can cause a bad connection. Restart the iPhone and do this very carefully to ensure that the SIM card does not get damaged in any way.

H. Update iOS.

Apple is always working hard to tweak the software to make it better and make it more compatible with any cell service provider network settings to get better connectivity to that network. It is best that the phone has the most updated version of the iOS. Simply connect to a WiFi network and then go to Settings > General > Software Update to see if any updates are available. If there is, then download then install the update.

I. Restart Network Settings.

The next part is to manually reset network settings options if nothing else has worked by this point. In order to do this, go to Settings > General > Reset. It is here that reset network settings should be selected and the passcode for the phone be entered. Once this is done tap on reset network settings.

J. Reset all settings.

If nothing has worked by this point, then it may be best to reset all of the settings without losing data on the device. In order for this to be done, go to Settings > General > Reset all settings. The passcode for the device will need to be entered and this will be confirmed by tapping on reset all settings.

8. Easy Fixes for No Service for Samsung Galaxy and other Android Devices.

The fixes for no service for Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy line are going to be very similar to the ones that were suggested for the iPhone. If using an Android device, we will cover some of the easy fixes to help get service back to the device.

A. Restart the Device.

This is going to be the first thing that needs to be done. If the problem is just a small one, then this is going to be enough to get service back to the device. Restarting is going to be able to clear out most of the software glitches which prevent the device from getting a great connection for a cell signal.

B. Put the Device in Airplane Mode.

If the restart did not work, then put the device in Airplane Mode. This can be done by pulling down the settings menu and tapping Airplane Mode. It needs to be left on for about 30 seconds and then tap to turn it off again. This should fix it. It will automatically reconnect to a much closer tower or a less busy tower to provide the device with stronger connectivity to a signal.

C. Selecting Network Operator Manually.

If these two methods do not work, then it will be time to select the network operator manually. Go to Settings > Find Mobile Networks > Network Operators. The Android device will begin to scan for all the networks within the local area. Once a network is found, click on it. There may be times that is because of roaming, low battery, or software errors or glitches, it will not find the right network provider automatically. This can help to properly connect the device to receive and make calls or use mobile data to browse the internet.

D. Check the SIM card.

It may be possible the SIM card has been damaged in one way or another or it was not positioned correctly in the device. This may be a reason why the device does not have service. Take the battery out and remove the SIM card. The SIM card should be wiped down using a soft paper towel to remove grime and/or dust. Put the SIM card back in position correctly and gently. Place the battery back into position and restart the device. This may help to get service back to the device. If there is still no service the first time, repeat it. If there is still no service after the second time, then the problem may be more serious.

E. Turn the Radio On.

If there is still no service, the next step is to see if the Radio is turned on. Open the dialer and then dial *#*#4636#*#*. Go into service mode and the tap on phone information. It is here that there is an option for "Run Ping Test". Below this screen there is an option called Radio. Tap this to turn it on and then restart the device. This could solve the issue.

Now, this brings the last option that is a guaranteed fix for any weak cell phone signals that is caused by bad in-vehicle and indoor cell phone reception.

9. Cell Phone Signal Boosters for Car, Home and Office.

The no signal on your cell phone could be caused by building materials or the home blocking out the signals. The easiest way to improve any weak signal is to purchase a cell phone booster. If traveling through an area that the signal often cuts out, it could be because of trees, buildings, valleys or hills, etc. that are blocking the signal from the cell tower, there are home and car signal boosters that are made of an exterior antenna that is able to pick up available signals outside of the boosted area.

This signal is then channeled into an amplifier which is installed inside of a vehicle, building or home. The cellular amplifier then boosts the signal up to 32 times and then broadcasts this much stronger signal reception in the local area. This provides a really powerful signal on the cell phone which is one of the highest strengths possible.

It is possible to have 5 bars on a cell phone, as long as there is a signal outside of where the exterior antenna is placed. A weak signal outside can provide a boost over smaller coverage space that is inside. A strong signal that is outside is able to provide a signal boost over larger indoor areas. When the right type of signal booster is purchased, it is possible to use the cell device around the home without having to worry about running into a dead zone. There's no longer a worry about having a dropped call or even slow internet speeds.

Cell phone signal boosters are often affordably priced and there's not a monthly fee that will need to be paid in order to use them. It is a single purchase, unlike a Femtocell where there is a monthly fee that must be paid. These boosters work for all phone models, carriers, and any phone operating systems simultaneously.

Conclusion.

Everyone knows what it is like when the cell reception sucks. Even if a person has the latest iPhone or Android model, and are signed up with a top cell service provider like T-Mobile, they are not immune to this problem. There will always be a chance that there are emails and texts not going through, unreliable and slow internet, poor connectivity, poor voice quality, missed calls, dropped calls, being unable to use Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, or even not being able to watch that adorable cat video on YouTube that was shared.

It is important to have reliable and fast cell phone connection. We live within the Age of Technology with Android and iPhone making up 80% of adults within the United States owning a smartphone while 95% of adults in the United States owning some type of cell phone.

We're all used to this great mobile lifestyle and we cannot imagine what life would be like without smartphones. We use them to play Pokemon Go, surf the internet, text, use apps, take photos and so much more and all through a smartphone.

What if the cell service is super spotty, like it is in many spots in United States? We would not be able to do a lot of the things that we take for granted these days. If there's a situation where there was only a single bar for service at best, then we all know how it would feel, especially if a phone call really needs to be made and the phone is not providing any type of signal at all.

Is there even a way to fix this reception so that it hits 5 bars, or even 4 bars? Is there a way to truly fix weak cell reception? Yes. There are a lot of options and all of them are listed above. If troubleshooting the phone, the settings, or software is not helping, then the easiest and best fix for a very weak cell phone signal will be to purchase a signal booster for a car, office or home.

These are really great devices, which are discussed above. Imagine not being able to have a quality cell phone signal, not having any type of cell service, and that means that the phone is just useless. It is just a thing that can be used to take photos with, as a flashlight or a calculator.

Even if photos are taken with the phone, then without any type of cell service, there is no way that a person can share them with family and friends and what good is that? This is why we took the time to brainstorm and find reasons for bad cell service connection. These may be considered to be easy fixes for any weak cell phone reception. Hopefully, a cell signal booster will not be needed.

However, if one is needed, then it is easy to find the best cell signal boosters for offices, homes and cars by trying our product finder tool or calling us for recommendation.

These devices have blanket pre-approval by United States carriers and there's only the need to register them when one is purchased. All cell signal boosters are certified within United States by the FCC.

  • Hawaii has 63% coverage. Just a recommendation to lease or erect a tower on the North Shore of Oahu, you have thousands and thousands of surfers and tourist who flock to this area, but t-mobile drops and low coverage is well known by those who swing by this side of the island. Even local business, education facilities, run into this problem. Hopefully, in the future; it can be improved. Just a suggestions. Thank you and Aloha!!

  • I saw a coverage map for Sprint on here and they both look to have similar ranges. That doesn’t mean you always have good coverage though. No matter where you’re at on a map, you can have weather or terrain interfering with your signals. You don’t always need a cell phone booster, but I’ve heard of cases where people can be in a supposedly good coverage area and still have poor cell phone reception.

  • K.D. asks “Why is the West Coast coverage so bad?”
    - As far as I can tell, all carriers have similar sparse coverage on the westcoast because it is more sparsely populated than the east coast. The disparity between USA west coast population density vs. east coast is huge. The population count of three west coast states plus Alaska and Hawaii is only 52.5 million. On other hand, the number of people that reside in states along Atlantic coast including Pennsylvania is 117 million. No wonder it is not worthwhile to construct cell tower on west coast as densely as on the east coast.

  • You won’t find me traveling much, but if I did, I wouldn’t want T-Mobile. Their coverage looks terrible. If T-Mobile is 2nd in the nation, I’m afraid to see what 3rd and 4th looks like. Why is the West Coast coverage so bad?

  • The best way to improve your T-Mobile coverage is to switch your plan to a better carrier or buy a cell phone booster. There are some areas that look decent but I’ve never been impressed with anything about T-Mobile. Give me AT&T or Verizon any day. I could change my mind in a few years but I’d have to hear many great stories from friends who have T-Mobile.

  • Looks like T-Mobile is holding its own with carriers that are probably seen as the big boys i.e. AT&T and Verizon. I’m kind of surprised that Sprint is so far behind. Then again, I use Cricket so it shows you how much I know about network coverage. The most important thing is that your phone works where you live and I’m happy.

  • I hate to sound negative but T-Mobile’s coverage map is pretty pathetic compared to some of the other carrier maps your site has displayed. If you have T-Mobile, I can see where a cell phone booster might be a necessity. Talk about poor coverage. The West Coast has so many gaps. Why is T-Mobile so limited compared to other carriers?
