Description

Product Description

Lightning Surge Protector or Arrester is for cellular signal amplifier kits and other similar 75 Ohm systems.

Brief summary:

  • Type "F" female to male connectors.
  • Attenuation is only up to 0.2 dB.
  • Frequency range covered up to 3 GHz.
  • Includes replaceable gas discharge element.

This device protects 75 Ohm mobile signal amplifiers and cell phone signal repeaters from power surges caused by lightning strikes. It is recommended when installing a 75 Ohms signal booster system. It must be placed between outdoor antenna and cell amplifier that needs protection. It must not be directly connected to either, but connected with cables on both input and output terminals. It features a 90V gas tube which is ideal for low power transmitters and sensitive receivers.

In the event that lightning strikes your exterior antenna causing a lightning current surge, this device will release a gas discharge element to break the connection. The gas element can be replaced. A short amount of additional coax cable is required for installation, and the lightning protector must be grounded to be effective.

It is recommended that it is installed close to external antenna, in line with the coaxial cable being used. We recommend installing it close to exterior antenna because if it does get hit with a lightning strike, you don't have to replace such a long length of cable. It must be grounded. It is designed to work with RG-6 and RG-11 cables and 75 Ohm booster systems.

Note: This is a 75 Ohm impedance surge protector with type F connectors. If your signal booster system has 50 Ohm outside antenna port impedance, you should buy 50 Ohm surge protector with type N connectors, instead.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • How can I confirm whether lightning has struck so I can replace the cartridge? I may be asleep in the night and lightning could hit without me finding out. Is there any indicator that I can look out for?

Loss of signal despite having your your cell phone signal booster system turned on would be the main indicator. After that, a physical examination of the surge protector would be in order.

  • Does this come with everything to hook it up ?

The purchase does not include any cables. It depends on your current system set-up whether or not you will need jumper cable(s) to connect to your device/cable line.

  • If this system does not work at our house can we return it for a refund? Thanks/Dennis

Yes, we offer 60 days money back guarantee, if not satisfied for any reason.

  • If service around here goes to 5G will this system be compatible.

Yes, because this is based on impedance (75 Ohm), not on network frequency. It protects from power of lightning surges, it has nothing to do with frequency running on your antenna connected system.

Warning

Note: For any signal booster to help, outside signal strength must be at least -110 dB or there must be a clear line of sight to a cell tower that is within twenty miles. Before ordering, please check outside signal level in decibels or ensure that you can make and hold a phone call at any good spot outside where you can mount an exterior antenna. Square footage stated in signal booster listings is based on good signal outside. If it is any weaker, the boosted sq. ft. area will be considerably lower, accordingly.

Kevin K. of Anderson, California gave the following review:

Website is easy to use with plain straight forward info but could have had more on testing signal strength to make sure you get a strong enough booster.

Therefore, please note that stated sq. ft. coverage is based on good signal outside. For best results: If outside signal is weak, we suggest choosing the next higher sq. ft. coverage kit. If outside signal is very weak, we suggest choosing the kit with even more higher sq. ft. range bracket. Basically, higher the sq. ft. bracket, the more powerful the signal amplifier with greater Gain as well as higher uplink and downlink output power.

If outside signal is too weak (weaker than -110 dB), submit request for cell coverage solution assessment. Upon receipt of questionnaire, we will perform residential or business site survey. This will help us determine the system that is needed to improve cell coverage. Then, we will create system design using that system such as femtocell, active or hybrid distributed antenna system (DAS), or other carrier feed signal enhancing method available that will work at your signal-challenged location. Finally, we will schedule for installation after equipment and installation service quote has been approved by you, or your company.

For non installation-included kits: Most home / office / building cell signal booster kits only include bracket to mount exterior antenna on outside wall, edge of roof, or existing pipe up to 2 inches in diameter. Mounting pole not included with most kits, unless stated specifically that it is included for free. Therefore, a mounting post must be purchased separately if you will require it to mount exterior antenna.
