QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I would like to replace the outdoor antenna with something better and more effective. What would you recommend for the Hi Boost f15g 5s?

The best antenna we have that you can replace your exterior antenna with is the RF Boost antenna at this link: https://www.signalbooster.com/products/rf-boost-long-range-antenna-for-cellular-wi-fi-grid-parabolic

  • I purchased a HI-Boost 10K Smart Link on 10/14/2020 and it is working fine but I have couple questions: 1. Is it possible to add another exterior Yagi antenna to point in a different direction? During installation I found a signal from another tower which I didn’t realize I could get. Maybe I can use a splitter to input both antenna cables into the signal amplifier? 2. I do not have a signal upstairs. My home office is upstairs and right under where the antenna is on the roof. Can I add another inside antenna? The directions say that you need 20 feet of vertical drop for this to work. What are the chances it would or will not work?

    1. Yes, you can add another exterior directional antenna with cable, and a splitter. Just know that the splitter mounted on signal booster at exterior antenna port will add some signal loss, negating some of the gain of the antennas.

    2. It is not recommended to add another indoor antenna expansion kit because of additional signal loss of adding a splitter, but you can do as you please and it could potentially work out for you. Instead, you could try pitching your existing current directional panel antenna upwards while it is aimed away from the Yagi antenna to cover a little more of upstairs area you need covered. Maybe that will work instead of adding an interior antenna expansion kit.

Vertical distance between antennas is important because there's a lower chance that feedback can occur. You can always try it if you wish (roof material may be bulkier and may help prevent more oscillation than actual distance between the two antennas) but you will need to return it at your expense for refund if oscillation occurs that we suspect may occur - as indicated with amber lights on amplifier.

  • Can this cellular amplifier kit be bought with ceiling dome antennae instead of wall flat antenna?

While the kit comes with a Panel antenna, you can buy Dome antenna separately which you can then use instead of Panel antenna included.

Alternatively, if you think an additional interior antenna would be helpful to cover more areas inside hom/office, you can opt to buy an antenna expansion kit so you can install extra inside antenna with cable and splitter you would need to add it to the system.

  • It is my understanding that the app access to calibrate exterior antenna comes with my purchase? It give me the signal meter option - Is that correct?

Yes, it is a free app you can download to use with your HiBoost signal booster kit. It will help you determine perfect angle where you can fix exterior antenna in place, for the best reception.

  • I bought your HiBoost Home 10k Smart Link kit but am having a hard time installing it. Why didn't your ad clearly say that the mounting pipe didn't come with this? Mounting "bracket" to me sounds like everything I need to get this installed. But no way to aim the antenna without the pipe.

We're very sorry to hear about the trouble you are having with installation. We wish that all of our ads could fit in every bit of necessary information so that it would sure make things a lot simpler. Unfortunately we can't fit everything into an ad. On our website, we post the user manual in hopes that people spending this kind of money will do some deeper research because there're actually many small quirks to the system that can be difficult for customers to achieve. I agree we need to be more clear about that point, maybe it should say Mounting Bracket (Fits any pole up to 2 inches in diameter). We have stated under warning tab that a pole may be required if it needs to be aimed at cell tower and if there's no pipe sticking out of your roof to mount antenna.   The major issue is that every single install is going to be unique. If we picked a type of pole to kit with these, it would only be useful for 20 percent of customers. For example there's no way to know how long of a pole any situation/location building structure will need. The height requirement is dependent on the placement of indoor antenna, and best signal available outside. Some people only need a short 10 inches pole for the top of their 2 story house. Others need to get higher to catch necessary signal requiring a 10 feet long pole. Some rural areas may even require 25 ft. pole. There're just too many variables to assume that whichever pole we choose would be correct for your unique install. That is why no brand and model cell phone signal booster kit itself has no pole with it as standard equipment in the box. It must be purchase separately, if needed.

  • I wanted to ask your technical service people for a little advice. A couple of months ago I purchased HiBoost Home 10K Smart Link Cell Phone Signal Booster | F15G-5S-BTW. I have finally got to a point where I think I will have good weather to install the signal booster. It came with LMR240 cable I think but I ordered (2) 100 ft. lengths of LMR400 and basically was going to use it to eliminate some dbm loss of the cable connections - using 50 ft. lengths from the external antenna to the booster and 50 ft. length from the booster to the indoor antenna. I had been waiting to install this booster system on or near my home but I work a significant amount of time during the week where I live and it has rained almost every day when I have had available "off work" time to start the installation. I have a couple of cell phone towers near my home that I thought would permit strong signals to be received but when I tried initially to install the signal booster system on my two story house (side gable for external antenna pointed directly at the #1 tower, it really didn't do much at all. I have two cell towers nearby my home: (#1) 1.88 miles cell tower is due E. 90 degrees away from my home site and (#2) 3.08 miles cell tower is due SE 121 degrees away from my home site. Attempts to install the signal booster on my two story home created a circumstance where I did not have good signal reception at either tower location (antennas were pointed to the exact degree vector away) and mainly I think the trees / leaves are interfering with the signal quality. The other problem I had was - mounting it on my home on the gable side. There appears to be interference with signal separation of the indoor / outdoor antennas. I was able to determine this with a spectrum analyzer that I was able to test with. I am an amateur radio operator and I have some knowledge of radio wave physics. For aesthetic reasons, my wife did not want a pole mounted anywhere on the roof. I looked at google earth and determined the following, my home site is 520' AGL and my house is 28' tall on the second floor gable apex, or roughly 548' AGL. I looked at google again and determined I have mostly pasture towards the line of sight cell tower #1 but there is one area about 1/4 mile in depth of 50' tall trees @ 460' AGL or 510' AGL about 1.5 miles away given the line of sight. Cell tower #1 is 200' tall and its site location is 330' AGL; and the actual antennas mounted on this cell tower are about 30' below the 200' height; so about net 500' AGL. I came to the conclusion - I am just at the tip-top level to receive signals from this tower line of sight - given minimal curvature of the earth. And, I do receive reliable (1 bar status and it is an all bands 4G and lower type phone) signals with my cell phone but I wanted to have more reliable and faster data speed rate capacity by having a better line of sight signal. There is no 5G signal in my area and it is a very rural location. So, I bought a 65 ft. utility pole and planted it 8.5 ft. in the ground next to my 28 ft. tall house. No I didn't buy it just for this reason, but I did put it 25 ft. away from the house and it towers 56.5 ft. above the original ground level of the home site 520' AGL which when I mount the outdoor external antenna up 40' on the pole, this will provide 560' AGL. My goal is to increase the signal strength of the cell signal so my data speeds will be more reliable and faster. But the higher I go up - on the utility pole, the more LMR400 coaxial cable I will use to run down the pole, over to the house, up the wall of my house, and then through my attic to the booster and then more db losses I will have from whatever signal downlink / uplink I may acquire. So, after the outdoor antenna Tx/Rx signals are sent to the booster, then whatever net signal is present is re-transmitted to the indoor antenna very close to where I use my cell phone to surf the internet. Sorry for the long story, but I wanted to be clear what my plan for this installation is - my question or the technical advice I wanted to request, is it more logical to acquire more height and signal at the high point on the utility pole while suffering more db loss using longer runs of LMR400 or should I just use shorter runs of LMR400 and lower height on the tower - given this set up? And, I have purchased two wide band parabolic cell band antennas for another purpose but would it be logical to trade out the outdoor yagi antenna for another one of these parabolic antennas since they have much more directed db signal gain to achieve the results I desire? This statement seems more logical to me but I also thought about co-phasing two yagi wide band antennas I already have together instead of just one yagi, which in effect would create a more narrow deflection beam path. I am currently using the two parabolic antennas in connection with a cellular modem / router at these two cell tower that work sufficiently well for pulling in data speeds with the use of carrier aggregation for several bands simultaneously and get speeds of 50-90mb reliably for the download speed 90% of the time, the upload is about 25mb most of the time as well. This circumvents the use of the booster system when I am connected to the router but as for LTE signals for the phone, I still want to increase the strength of the data speed with the booster. If you think neither proposal will likely increase my desired results, I will just turn the signal booster into a mobile unit for recreational purposes. You comments are greatly appreciated - Thank You. Probably will buy more products from your company. I like playing with this stuff and testing so will be looking at the website for more gadgets.

Thank you for your detailed explanation.

We would always recommend first trying to place exterior antenna at lower altitude that is just enough for the cable length provided. The simple reason is that the longer the cable, more the signal loss in dB per foot of cable. This can possibly negate the Gain acheived completely considering the fact that outside signal strength is already extremely weak.

If that does not help, only then you can try the longer cable option for mounting antenna higher up on the pole that you suggested to see if that helps. However, more importantly, we would rather suggest switching out the HiBoost 10K kit with HiBoost 15K kit as suggested here https://www.signalbooster.com/blogs/news/hiboost-smart-link-4k-10k-15k-cell-phone-signal-booster-installation-video because it would give you +5dB additional gain.

An extra +5 dB makes a HUGE difference in areas such as yours with very weak outside signal strength. With the more powerful signal amplifier, you may get away without raising exterior antenna higher by using longer cable lengths.

This is where our 60 days refund/exchange guarantee helps! We know that sometimes it takes a long time before you can go up there to get it installed considering the weather situation everywhere which is radically different from place to place.

If you need professional installer to help install your system perfectly using a higher 72 dB Gain system, we offer cell signal booster with installation package as well. If you choose this option, you can return the kit you have purchased for a full refund within 60 days of purchase.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss your situation further, we will be glad to help as much as possible.

    Thank you for your business.

Warning

Note: For any signal booster to help, outside signal strength must be at least -110 dB or there must be a clear line of sight to a cell tower that is within twenty miles. Before ordering, please check outside signal level in decibels or ensure that you can make and hold a phone call at any good spot outside where you can mount an exterior antenna. Square footage stated in signal booster listings is based on good signal outside. If it is any weaker, the boosted sq. ft. area will be considerably lower, accordingly.

Kevin K. of Anderson, California gave the following review:

Website is easy to use with plain straight forward info but could have had more on testing signal strength to make sure you get a strong enough booster.

Therefore, please note that stated sq. ft. coverage is based on good signal outside. For best results: If outside signal is weak, we suggest choosing the next higher sq. ft. coverage kit. If outside signal is very weak, we suggest choosing the kit with even more higher sq. ft. range bracket. Basically, higher the sq. ft. bracket, the more powerful the signal amplifier with greater Gain as well as higher uplink and downlink output power.

If outside signal is too weak (weaker than -110 dB), submit request for cell coverage solution assessment. Upon receipt of questionnaire, we will perform residential or business site survey. This will help us determine the system that is needed to improve cell coverage. Then, we will create system design using that system such as femtocell, active or hybrid distributed antenna system (DAS), or other carrier feed signal enhancing method available that will work at your signal-challenged location. Finally, we will schedule for installation after equipment and installation service quote has been approved by you, or your company.

For non installation-included kits: Most home / office / building cell signal booster kits only include bracket to mount exterior antenna on outside wall, edge of roof, or existing pipe up to 2 inches in diameter. Mounting pole not included with most kits, unless stated specifically that it is included for free. Therefore, a mounting post must be purchased separately if you will require it to mount exterior antenna.
