Alaska ERRC (Emergency Responder Radio Coverage) Public Safety DAS / Signal Booster Installation Service is guaranteed by SignalBooster.com, an ERRC System Specialist. Many Alaska jurisdictions now require NFP or IFC-compliant public safety radio coverage as a prerequisite for getting an occupancy permit. However, Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System (ERRCS) or public safety signal booster and distributed antenna system (DAS) requirements vary from region to region nationwide across United States.

Alaska identifies narrowband signal boosters as being Class A and wideband signal boosters as being Class B. Boosters within the Class B categorization can only be placed in areas which do not cause interference to other users. However, because of the low power and frequency of the Class B booster there is little probability of such causing a problem in Public Safety areas. Therefore, Alaska has stated that all Class B boosters are suitable for indoor placement.

New buildings may not require DAS for emergency radio coverage if the building is less than 3 stories tall and less than 50,000 square feet. In such cases where there is low-E glass or where there are levels below ground level, or in buildings where walls contain RF-Shielding, radio boosting would be necessary.

In testing that proper radio coverage is given, Alaska adheres to the IFC section 510.5.3. Signals cannot be less than -95 dBM. Recommended DAQ for Alaska is 3.4. Other requirements for the ERCC for Alaska are:

• That the system has a RF signal booster alarm.
• That Fiber Optics be used.
• That the system has battery backup.
• That the system is connected to common ground.
• That the Antenna is correctly bonded.
• That components encloses NEMA 4 or 4X.
• Signal booster must be DAS FCC-approved.
• Antennas must have secure monitoring.

Alaska has requirements for existing buildings to upgrade by adding a public safety DAS or signal booster system if public safety radio signals coverage does not meet required density. Please note that in-building Alaska public safety radio coverage requirements can vary greatly based on Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Local AHJ regulations are based on ordinances from several organizations including National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC) and International Code Council (ICC).
