Usage.

RF Explorer has been designed for signal booster system installers to detect signal distance, strength and direction when installing and troubleshooting wireless systems e.g. weBoost, SureCall, HiBoost, and Wilson Pro signal booster systems by Wilson Electronics.

This unit has been designed to be intuitive and easy to use without having to read complicated manuals to understand its advanced functionality. Most of the intricacy typically found in full sized Spectrum Analyzers has been simplified with functionality that is automatically resolved by the firmware. Based on an integrated double balanced mixer and frequency synthesizer, the unit offers compact size, high performance and low consumption, all at a low cost.

Two SMA connectors are provided for the two antennas included - a whip helical for the 2.4 GHz band and a wide-band telescopic antenna for Sub-GHz frequencies.

Accessories included.

  • 1 × RF Explorer signal meter.
  • 1 × Helical whip antenna for frequencies above 1000 MHz.
  • 1 × Wideband telescoping antenna (Nagoya NA-773) for frequencies below 1000 MHz.
  • 1 × hard-sided case (black).

Notes.

Sorry, we have had too many instances of returns after use when no longer needed. Therefore, units that are operating as intended may not be returned for refund. Faulty units will only be exchanged under manufacturers warranty. Sorry, we do not rent this RF signal detector, it must be purchased outright.

Questions & Answers

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I was going to purchase the RF Explorer Spectrum Analyzer for aiming my cell phone booster. I read the directions and it says you must have a 50 ohm antenna hooked up. My booster has a 75 ohm antenna. Will this not work for my application?

There's a Sub-GHz wideband Nagoya NA-773 telescopic antenna included and another 2.4 Ghz one for 15-2700 MHz band with helical antenna included. But these suitable for standard SMA 50 ohms connector, and your antenna's 75 ohms connector may not be suitable.

There is no problem or limitation in antenna impedance between booster and analyzer. They are totally unrelated. So you can use RF Explorer 3G Combo for your application without issues.

The only limitation comes if you try to plug a 75 ohm antenna into the analyzer itself, which only fits 50 ohm connectors.

Analyzer includes a SMA connector, as described in the specifications. Depending on your Yagi antenna connector, you will need to use a SMA-to-X adapter.

Since you said you have Yagi 75 ohm, we can assume you have F connector so you will need SMA to F connector to connect to analyzer. We sell all types of connectors at this website.

If you have a cable connected to your antenna with F-Male connector on its end, then you will need F-Female to SMA connector.

If you have no cable connected to your antenna that has F-Female connector, then you will need F-Male to SMA connector.

The SMA connector in the Analyzer is SMA Female, therefore you would need a SMA-Male to F-Male adapter if connecting it directly to antenna that has F-Female connector.

Once you have proper connector to connect your 75 Ohm antenna to RF Explorer, it will give correct signal strength readings.

  • I'm looking for a device to tell me the strength of signal for the area of installation of radio remote read card inside of electric meters. Will this device help me with that?

Yes, this should be the right model for your needs. To double check, please let us know the exact frequency range the electric meter remote connections work on.

  • I fly radio-controlled airplanes utilizing the 2.4 Ghz band. These systems are supposed to be bulletproof as they implement frequency-hopping technology. Alas, myself and several of my compatriots have had "hits" resulting in loss of control and crashes. We suspect there is some intermittent source of interfering RF energy, perhaps miles away from our flying site, that is either interfering with or "washing out" our radio-control systems even though it is claimed to be IMPOSSIBLE to do so. Would this device be able to detect such (potentially low-powered) sources in thh 2.4 Ghz band??

While the signal meter may detect the signal strength in that frequency, there is no way to determine the source of the signal.

  • I'm looking for a device that can detect various television broadcast over-the-air signals and determine the strength of those signals. Is this a product that can do that and if so, can i assume that you do not need to be connected to any other device/anetenna and that it is portable and can detect if there is a signal anywhere outside, correct?

Since that signal meter covers frequencies most TV transmissions start at, it should help you. Antenna that comes with the meter would be sufficient.

Warning

Note: For any signal booster to help, outside signal strength must be at least -110 dB or there must be a clear line of sight to a cell tower that is within twenty miles. Before ordering, please check outside signal level in decibels or ensure that you can make and hold a phone call at any good spot outside where you can mount an exterior antenna. Square footage stated in signal booster listings is based on good signal outside. If it is any weaker, the boosted sq. ft. area will be considerably lower, accordingly.

Kevin K. of Anderson, California gave the following review:

Website is easy to use with plain straight forward info but could have had more on testing signal strength to make sure you get a strong enough booster.

Therefore, please note that stated sq. ft. coverage is based on good signal outside. For best results: If outside signal is weak, we suggest choosing the next higher sq. ft. coverage kit. If outside signal is very weak, we suggest choosing the kit with even more higher sq. ft. range bracket. Basically, higher the sq. ft. bracket, the more powerful the signal amplifier with greater Gain as well as higher uplink and downlink output power.

If outside signal is too weak (weaker than -110 dB), submit request for cell coverage solution assessment. Upon receipt of questionnaire, we will perform residential or business site survey. This will help us determine the system that is needed to improve cell coverage. Then, we will create system design using that system such as femtocell, active or hybrid distributed antenna system (DAS), or other carrier feed signal enhancing method available that will work at your signal-challenged location. Finally, we will schedule for installation after equipment and installation service quote has been approved by you, or your company.

For non installation-included kits: Most home / office / building cell signal booster kits only include bracket to mount exterior antenna on outside wall, edge of roof, or existing pipe up to 2 inches in diameter. Mounting pole not included with most kits, unless stated specifically that it is included for free. Therefore, a mounting post must be purchased separately if you will require it to mount exterior antenna.
