Questions & Answers
QUESTIONS & ANSWERSAsk a Question
Want to mount in a motorhome and use while driving. What is the maximum usable distance from the inside antenna?
The typical user range is 1 to 4 feet from internal antenna (Hershey bar antenna). This coverage will largely depend on the starting signal (signal outside truck in the vicinity).
Is this wireless and can you move it to other vehicles easy?
It uses coaxial cable to allow signal to travel in to the RV. The phone or cellular device will not need to be attached to the system, so it will be wireless in that sense. This kit will be primarily for the RV, however, different antennas could allow you to move the booster to the vehicle.
I'm looking at installing this kit in an RV to use my cell as a hotspot for streaming video and music. Do you offer alternate antennae that would cover the interior of the RV better than the one it comes with?
The best upgrade we have for the inside coverage, is the 304447 panel antenna. This antenna will be able to cover double the current coverage of the hershey bar antenna. Please call to place order over the phone.
Can I switch out the RV/ trucker antenna with the magnet antenna for use in a different vehicle?
You are more than welcome to use the magnet antenna (SKU: 301126) with the Drive 4G-X in a different vehicle if you wish.
I'm looking at the 4G-X OTR for use in a Jeep. It appears that the antenna that comes with the OTR kit has a built in ground plane. Is this true, and is there a spring that can be added to the antenna avoid breakage?
The Drive 4G-X OTR antenna does have a built in ground plane. We do offer the OTR kit with the Spring mount that has part # 304415. We would be happy to place order over phone if you would call us and reference 4G-X OTR and 304415.
Can antenna be mounted on a headache rack behind the cab of a pickup truck? Or does it have to be right on the cab?
We generally recommend that the antenna be mounted in an area where there are no obstructions. As long as the thicker part of the antenna is far enough above roof line, you should be fine. There shouldn't be any trouble in mounting the antenna on the rack, as long as you don't need to extend cable lengths at all.
I bought the 4G-M before and now I saw the OTR one. Could I just buy the antenna? Will that setup work as well as this?
The trucker antenna would be an upgrade, but unfortunately, the Drive 4G-X booster will be stronger than the Drive 4G-M. While the gains are the same, the Drive 4G-X has higher output power - better reach to the tower.
I am wanting to purchase the 4G-X OTR, but would like to use it on my pickup. Which retailers sell the spring mount external antenna with the kit?
Please call us to place order for SKU number, "304415" which is the spring mount antenna you're looking for.
I am a custom cutting over the road grain hauler. We custom harvest in North Dakota, down to Texas and some of our locations a really off the grid. Therefore, I need a extra strong system to keep contact with the combines and other trucks, and need the antenna springs along with male and female connections. What would you recommend? I use A T &T as my provider.
I would say that this Drive 4g-X OTR is going to work the best. However, you might fare better with the standard Drive 4G-X and get a spring mount antenna which is part # 304415 as a separate purchase. We don't have a kit available with this specific antenna. Please give us a call for us to know more about your situation to see what would work best for you.
Can this be used on a regular car?
Yes, this technically can be used on a standard car. However, the outside antenna needs to be mounted to a pole in order for the antenna to work properly since it is a large antenna that is being mounted. The standard Drive 4G-X (SKU 470510) would work better for vehicles since the mini magnet will be able to attach to the vehicle itself. It is not too practical to have a 1.5- to 2 inches diameter pole attached to your car and have a large antenna off of that, but I suppose it is possible! I hope it's able to work out, but I still would recommend the Drive 4G-X as a the better option vs. this OTR signal booster kit.
What is the best antenna to mount on a truck with an aluminum body, F350? Mirrors really don't lend themselves to mounting anything.
The only way that the OTR antenna can mount to anything is with a pole mount. If you have a roof rack, back windshield guard, or any pole that the antenna can mount to, then you should be good to go. If not, you will need to fashion a horizontal pole that the antenna can mount on. Anything that is able to fit a semi mirror should do the trick.
Will this system work with your cradle mount and will it increase the Bluetooth range of my phone
The cradle mount will technically work, but only on the 3G since that is what the antenna is designed for. The 4G would not pass through the cradle and be useless. Only the candy bar antenna that comes with the kit, or the desktop antenna can be used to be able to cast the increased signal into the device so far. The only unit that is capable of boosting 4G is the Drive Sleek which is a separate booster in itself and cannot be paired with other boosters. Also, the bluetooth will not be extended as those frequencies are difference than cellular signal, only your call quality and your data rate will increase but the bluetooth will not be extended further away from the phone to the device.
I am looking for a signal booster for my fire departments rescue vehicle, we have a large dead space with a weak signal in west Texas. Which one would work best for us.
Yes, this one would be best because taller the antenna, better possibility of overcoming more obstructions. This one has tall adjustable height antenna from 17 inches to 45 inches using mast extensions included.
Or you can go with equally powerful if not more, the SureCall Fusion2Go 3.0 with 30 inches trucker antenna kit listed at the link posted below in this answer post: https://www.signalbooster.com/products/12-volt-cell-phone-booster-for-truck-fusion2go-3-0-trucker-antenna-kit-usa
Can I have multiple Hershey Bar antennae’s throughout my trucks cab?
Sorry, it can be used with only one interior antenna. There's only one internal antenna port provided in the base signal amplifier unit.
What is length of cables in weBoost Drive 4G-X OTR Truck Cell Phone Signal Booster (Model # 470210)? What is length of cable going from exterior antenna to booster, and what is length of cable going from booster to interior antenna?
From internal antenna to the cellular booster base unit is 10 feet, and the external antenna to the base unit is 14 ft. of cabling.

Note: For any signal booster to help, outside signal strength must be at least -110 dB or there must be a clear line of sight to a cell tower that is within twenty miles of your home / building. Please check outside signal level in decibels before ordering. Square footage stated in signal booster listings is based on good signal outside. If it is any weaker, the boosted sq. ft. area will be considerably lower, accordingly. If it is too weak, submit request for cell coverage solution assessment. Upon receipt of questionnaire, we will perform residential or business site survey. This will help us determine the system that is needed to improve cell coverage. Then, we will create system design using that system such as femtocell, active or hybrid distributed antenna system (DAS), or other carrier feed signal enhancing method available that will work at your signal-challenged location. Finally, we will schedule for installation after equipment and installation service quote has been approved by you, or your company.
