What is the Drive Reach RV?

Drive Reach RV is a Cell Signal Booster for RVs, Campers and Trailers. Stay connected on every adventure. The new Drive Reach RV by weBoost is weBoost's most powerful, multi-user cell signal booster available for when you're on the road as well as when parked. With the Drive Reach RV, you and your crew can experience fewer dropped calls, better voice quality, faster network speeds, improved audio and data streaming and greater hotspot capability throughout North America.

About Signals and Antennas.

The Drive Reach RV uses an outside antenna to pick up a cell signal. The signal is passed along to the booster, where it is amplified. This boosted signal then goes to the in-vehicle antenna, where it is broadcast to your device. With the latest technology, you can always make the most of existing cell signal, even in remote locations where cell signal towers are few and far between. The Drive Reach RV can reach cell signals up to 74 percent farther away than weBoost's next most powerful RV booster. The new Drive Reach RV also stands out due to its proprietary design. Its outside antenna exceeds military and NEMA standards, meaning it is tough enough to withstand even the harshest conditions. Its inside antenna is slim enough to tuck away on a countertop or table. Meanwhile, the booster itself can be hidden inside a cupboard or under a seat.

Installation.

The Drive Reach RV also comes with everything you need right out of the box. It is easily installed in about 30 minutes. Included ladder mount is fast and easy to install. Modular mast extensions help ensure that antenna is tall enough to avoid interference from other devices while staying below height restrictions.

Questions & Answers

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Can I use my own satellite cable for outside antenna of weBoost Reach RV kit? There's outside satellite connector cable that runs in from a little plug outside my Airstream RV but I''m not using it so can I use it for this drive reach rv cell signal booster? I hate to drill another hole for your cable that looks somewhat the same so is it good or do I need to run a separate cable?

We don't recommend using existing cable with the system. It most likely has 75 Ohm impedance, whereas this kit has 50 Ohm outside antenna port impedance. Secondly, we have not tested it with the product, so there's no guarantee it would work. Also, this kit's antenna cable uses SMA connectors rather than standard F connectors as seen with satellite cable, so an adapter will likely be needed.

  • I want to set up a cellular booster system inside my RV but do not want to make a hole through the wall or roof.

You can run the cable though a window rubber gasket. Or if you have a RV with a slider, run the cable through there. Please watch video at the following link for installation details: https://signalbooster.wistia.com/medias/dnhgg8ughk

  • I recently purchased the weBoost Drive Reach RV from you. I am also interested in your Marine Antenna Mount, so that I can collapse my external antenna when not needed. Do you have have adapters that would connect the metal spring base of the Drive Reach RV antenna to the marine mount? Or any suggestions on how to connect the two?

Unfortunately, the Marine Antenna Mount is only compatible with the Marine Antenna (part number 304420), so we don't have a way to make that mount work with the RV antenna. We have heard some customers get a separate CB antenna mount. The RV antenna can mount to a standard CB mount, and there are many 3rd party mounts online being sold, so one that folds down would work fine.

  • Why does the Drive Reach RV come with a 120V adapter? My RV has 12V outlets that don't require me to turn on my inverter in order to use a booster. Isn't this true of all RVs? I know I can buy a 12V adapter for around $25, but that seems pretty cheesy to charge me extra for what should have been in the kit in the first place.

Research by manufacturer had found that most customers did not use the 12V hard wire kit included in previous models. Thus, the decision to leave it out in this kit by the manufacturer. As you have said, it is still available for the customers, that would like to have it though.

  • I ordered the more powerful higher Gain inside antenna (311135) to use instead of desktop antenna that came with this kit Drive Reach RV 470354. In a Q&A section it said we need the adapter 971157 to connect it so I ordered that as well. But then I realized that there is no way it can connect to the RG58 inside antenna cable. So what adapter do I need to make this connection, please? Just to verify: I want to connect the antenna (311135) to the RG inside cable that comes with the Drive reach RV kit. It looks like the connector (970030) will go right into the booster bypassing the cable. I need the cable between the antenna and booster. Please verify part # I need.

In order to use the Panel antenna (311135) instead of included desktop stock antenna, you will also need SMB connector (970030). The connector you got was the one to connect to the Drive X RV, but you need additional SMB connector 970030 to connect Panel antenna to the Drive Reach RV booster which has SMB connectivity instead. This SMB connector is included in the Drive Reach RV Extreme kit which includes Panel antenna that many buy when they want interior Panel antenna for larger coverage space, instead of interior desktop antenna. Answering the latter part of your question (verification): In order to connect that antenna to the Booster and Cable, you need the 971157 (N Male to SMA Female) to connect from the Antenna to the RG-Cable and the 970019 (SMA Female to SMB Plug). Just to clarify, the Cable has a SMA Male connector on both ends.

  • I am a youtuber and I travel as part of my work. When I travel, I take my camper and set up in an area close to where I will be working, usually state campgrounds. I do a lot of live streaming from my vehicle on the move. One of my major challenges is that I spend a lot of time in rural areas with poor cellular connection. I am looking for a system that can go into my truck and be mobile but when I am at my camper, I would like the booster in my truck to provide coverage for the camper. I am having a hard time trying to figure out the best solution without having to buy 2 units, which I don't have the money for. Also, would the 2 units interfere with each other if I had 2?

Our Drive Reach amplifiers are made to be used while traveling. They can also be used while stationary, but the coverage they provide will be limited in comparison to our stationary-only amplifiers, like the Connect RV 65.

For example, the Drive Reach RV (model number 470354) is one many customers go with, and they also buy separate add'l antennas to use in a pickup, in addition to their camper - like you have. Therefore, you would only take the booster from the truck to the camper, and connect antennas to the booster in either application. That takes mere seconds with SMB snap on connectors at end of exterior and interior antennas.

Technically, if you got two kits, oscillation may also come into play. Thus, it is best to buy and install one kit in your truck plus buy additional Outside Antenna with 13 inches Mast Extension (311230), and Desktop Inside Antenna (311235) for the camper. Then you can quickly move the main booster unit (which is way more expensive than getting extra set of antennas) between the two, depending on when and where you need better inside cellular coverage.

  • We recently bought a weBoost Drive Reach RV from Signal Booster and am looking for a couple of additional antennas so that we can use this at home occasionally. Ideally, I would like to be able to use both 4G and 5G cell bands. For outside, can you recommend the best omnidirectional antenna? I also need a compatible indoor antenna. Although the house is 2000 square feet, we do not need coverage for the whole area as it is mainly for an Internet hotspot. I also need an AC adapter for the Drive reach. Thank you.

Ideally, we recommend the weBoost Drive Reach RV Extreme because it has Panel antenna with slightly higher Gain output covering slightly larger area than the desktop antenna that comes with this standard weBoost Drive Reach RV. The standard Drive Reach RV booster is designed for vehicles. In specific, it is made for while driving since it is a "Drive" product. Those types of products will always have a small coverage area because of FCC regulations, regardless of the antennas used with them. Despite the fact that we do not recommend it to be a home/office booster, you could use parts to have it work in a home - but it will have a very small coverage area, like it is in a vehicle. The booster itself is why it won't provide much area, the antennas won't have as much impact since the most dB gain is from the booster. The part number for the AC power supply is 850012. You can try it in home with existing antennas set-up to see if it works for you. In order to use home/office antennas, it would require multiple adapters since they aren't designed for the Reach. Please contact us if you still prefer to go that route. Thank you.

  • I have this kit but wish to have a shorter Rg-6 cable (10ft vs. the 25 ft that comes with the kit). What part number is a shorter compatible cable for the outside antenna? Thank you.

We have several different lengths of the same type RG6 cable as the one that comes with the kit and they are listed here:

    https://www.signalbooster.com/products/white-rg6-cable-2-ft-short-to-50-ft-long-w-f-male-connectors-75-ohm

  • I’m thinking of using the panel antenna, pn 304447, with your Drive Reach RV cell booster. Is it compatible and should it be wall or ceiling mounted? Also will the higher signal strength require a larger distance from the outside antenna? I will be installing it in a 30 ft. Airstream Trailer, basically a Faraday cage. Also, would the panel be better off on a ceiling or wall, with respect to signal pattern?

We have that same antenna kitted in the weBoost Drive Reach RV Extreme kit so you need not worry about buying all the proper parts separately that will make it fit into / with this kit.

This Panel antenna is directional antenna so it can be wall mounted facing opposite direction of exterior antenna. For example, if exterior antenna is mounted in rear such as on ladder on back of RV, then place Panel antenna on back wall facing towards front of RV to provide stronger signal along elongated portion covering all of the RV.

While the Panel antenna will definitely provide much larger and stronger cellular coverage than the smaller lower power desktop antenna, please note that based on the signal strength caught from outside, the signal will gradually reduce as you go farther from Panel antenna (as you go forward towards the front of vehicle).

Yes, the Panel antenna can also be mounted on ceiling facing downward, anywhere along RV but know that this is a 50-60 degrees small beamwidth directional antenna bearing down in a conical fashion so the strong boosted signal area will be limited to approx. max 6-10 ft. diameter space right beneath the panel antenna.

In both instances, your Airstream trailer's faraday cage type roof material should actually be helpful in creating the required barrier between the two antennas.

Panel antenna would make most sense on the wall facing longer section of RV for larger coverage area.

Note: For any signal booster to help, outside signal strength must be at least -110 dB or there must be a clear line of sight to a cell tower that is within twenty miles. Before ordering, please check outside signal level in decibels or ensure that you can make and hold a phone call at any good spot outside where you can mount an exterior antenna. Square footage stated in signal booster listings is based on good signal outside. If it is any weaker, the boosted sq. ft. area will be considerably lower, accordingly.

Kevin K. of Anderson, California gave the following review:

Website is easy to use with plain straight forward info but could have had more on testing signal strength to make sure you get a strong enough booster.

Therefore, please note that stated sq. ft. coverage is based on good signal outside. For best results: If outside signal is weak, we suggest choosing the next higher sq. ft. coverage kit. If outside signal is very weak, we suggest choosing the kit with even more higher sq. ft. range bracket. Basically, higher the sq. ft. bracket, the more powerful the signal amplifier with greater Gain as well as higher uplink and downlink output power.

If outside signal is too weak (weaker than -110 dB), submit request for cell coverage solution assessment. Upon receipt of questionnaire, we will perform residential or business site survey. This will help us determine the system that is needed to improve cell coverage. Then, we will create system design using that system such as femtocell, active or hybrid distributed antenna system (DAS), or other carrier feed signal enhancing method available that will work at your signal-challenged location. Finally, we will schedule for installation after equipment and installation service quote has been approved by you, or your company.

For non installation-included kits: Most home / office / building cell signal booster kits only include bracket to mount exterior antenna on outside wall, edge of roof, or existing pipe up to 2 inches in diameter. Mounting pole not included with most kits, unless stated specifically that it is included for free. Therefore, a mounting post must be purchased separately if you will require it to mount exterior antenna.
